Andrew Sega Shrine

Recent site activity

Welcome

Here you'll find news, music, links, and whatever else I can dig up about one of my favorite artists: Andrew Sega.  You may know him better from his time in the MOD music scene as Necros, the sole creator behind The Alpha Conspiracy, owner of Diffusion Records, or half of Iris.  Andrew is a talented musician, mixer, and producer who has done work on a variety of video games such as Unreal Tournament.

I intend this site, necros.gibdon.com, to be a communal gathering of all the tidbits anyone can gather, so please contact me (weenie@gmail.com) if you have anything you'd like to share.  Some things I'm looking to add in the near future:
  • Unique Theme
  • MP3 versions of Scene Music
  • Recent Photos / Interviews
  • Visitor Comment Form and/or Guestbook
Also, let me know if you'd like to be a regular contributor and I can give you the capability to post news, attach files, and make comments.

It will contain all things necros (mods, videos, basically anything i can get). So far, i have uploaded several mods and the first two parts of "taking tracking mainstream", a presentation done by necros for 2007 blockparty.

Thanks!

The following pictures were linked in an email to me from Valentin, a fellow Andrew Sega fan.

UPDATE on 4/30: Added captions by submitter Valentin.

Iris - Awakening, DIF005, limited edition. Rare and expensive cd, I asked Andrew and Brian Pearson if if's still possible to find the cd, and they answered that all cds were sold out ages ago (although Andy has a few left). But once a friend of mine from Moscow found this disc at cheaper price on Amazon and made me a present. I was dreaming of this album over the years!

Andrew's neck. I made this picture after the show in Moscow in 2004. This was the last shot on tape, and my favorite one. Because no one had made a picture like this.

Audiophonik and Freedom. The first one was extremely hard to find, and I was able to get it some years later. Also I asked the creator of these cds Dan Wright about Freedom, and he told me that he still has some packed copies (1995!).

Forward Rewindings EP "For Molly". I have a friend, a girl from the Black sea, and once she told me "Andrew is cute" or something. Heh, I imagined how happy she will be if Andrew himself will sign a cd for her! And I contacted Andy, asked him to carry one disc for me (which was hard to get 6 years ago). This was one of the happiest moments in my life.

A picture of my cd-collection. Each year I put all my cds on the floor to make a photo of them. When I was young it was impossible to buy anything from foreign countries. First of all, the price was high for russians, we didn't have credit cards, online shops didn't know about Russia, and paypal was unable in our country for a long time. And I was dreaming of these albums of musicians I know. But time passed, and now I'm a collector. So, this is a photo of 2006 or so, and you may see Necros' cds on it.

Andrew is signing my t-shirt. Iris came to Russia again in 2006. This time I was not alone - I came with many demoscene people, guys of gaming industry, and serious and imfamous musicians. We all knew Andy, and everyone wanted to chat with him. It's a long story, but I remember the moment when Andrew saw me, and he was shocked and wasn't able to tell anything for a few seconds.

Iris - It Generates. This cd released in Poland only. It's extremely megarare. My Moscow friend found one copy, paid about $70, and the seller was owner of Infected Records. The cd is not mine, but I have a copy, hi-res scan, and I touched this disc. Wow!

Me, Andrew and my Moscow friend Basil (Vasily). It was in 2004, after the Iris show. This day changed my life... Job, hobbies, friends, relations, concerts and people... A LOT. Maybe I will write a book of my experience. Wow, a good idea!

Missing Songs from Dust11

posted Mar 21, 2009 9:52 AM by Neil Obremski   [ updated Mar 22, 2009 4:22 PM ]

Dust11 wrote me to add some missing songs which may or may not be Necros.  I'm going to attach them to this post, but I'll hold off on adding them to the Scene Music section until I'm sure.  Enjoy!

P.S. - Visit Dust11's music page for remixes of Necros songs and others in MP3 form.

Andrew has confirmed 3 of 4 are his:

yes, except for that traxinspacestation one which isn't mine

that hornet one is quite hilarious, i completely forgot about that

"Pulse" - Necros track released on Audiophonik CD

posted Jan 9, 2009 9:24 AM by Neil Obremski

I received another great email from Steffan:

Greetings once again NeilO!

I'm glad you enjoyed the Distant Lullaby remix I'd found. So I imagine you'd like to know about another Necros track, "Pulse", included on a compilation CD called Audiophonik released in 1999.

I actually own an original copy of this CD, which is now out of issue. However, the distributor Fusecon has put the entire CD on-line in MP3 format for free download. "Pulse" is featured as track 8. All the details can be seen here : http://www.fusecon.com/products/audiophonik/

Audiophonik is a fine collection of music by various scene musicians. I particularly recommend "Cocoon" by Scorpik - a superb chillout track. Enjoy!

Cheers,
Steffan

I remember trying to obtain a copy of this CD many years ago, so it's really cool now being able to download it as MP3's.  Awesome!

Stoneage Fiction

posted Dec 27, 2008 6:59 PM by Neil Obremski

Rather than paraphrase, I'm posting an entire email here I received about a remix of "Distant Lullaby":

Hello NeilO!

Firstly, thanks for putting together the Andrew Sega Shrine. I found your page years ago when hunting for Necros MODs and think its a great resource! Also, kudos to you for reviving the Shrine site. This has prompted me to send you this mail!

I see you have a chip tune called "Distant Lullaby". You are probably not aware of the remix Necros did, which was released in a PC demo "Stoneage Fiction" by Itsari back in 1997. Whereas the original chip tune is a fine example of Andrew's work, the remix has been an all-time favourite scene tune of mine for many years.

Here are some links :

Stoneage Fiction by Itsari is described here : http://pouet.scene.org/prod.php?which=7323

Stoneage Fiction can be downloaded from any scene.org mirror, the filename is "it_cave.zip". I can't guarantee that the demo will work on a modern machine! You will see that the zip file helpfully contains the music in a standard file called DISTANT3.XM

Also, modarchive.org has the music file, but has been renamed :
http://modarchive.org/module.php?146422

Thanks again for putting the Shrine together, I hope it stays around so more people can stumble on it and relive those scene tunes!

Cheers,
Steffan

Thanks Steffan, I'm attaching the XM remix here and will add it to Scene Music.

Watching Over You Duet

posted Dec 16, 2008 8:53 PM by Neil Obremski   [ updated Dec 29, 2008 10:21 AM ]

Alright, I just found this on YouTube and now I'm wondering where the dang MP3 is!

An exclusive download to commemorate the recently completed Seabound/Iris Alliance Tour is now available for a limited time. On select nights, Reagan and Frank performed "" together as an encore to the Seabound set. This duet was so well received that both bands and labels decided to record it and offer it as a free "thank you" to the fans. This recording was made at the DNA Lounge in San Francisco, CA on 29 March 2008.

If I can find it, I'll upload it here.

Update on 2008-12-29: the file is 12.3mb and my limit here is 10, but you can get more information about it on the iris forums and here are two direct download links:

Iris: Nobody Wins

posted Dec 2, 2008 12:36 PM by Neil Obremski

While the new release Hydra has only three new songs on it, Andrew and Reagan deliver them as three addictive hits.  Nobody Wins is my personal favorite and has been stuck in my head for over a week now.  Here are the lyrics so you can sing along too.

weeds dry in the sand
fish die on the land
and so ...

go the way of the ones
they the rebels of low

slow dawn of the age
ever late crusade, commence
would it kill anyone if nobody could win?

it's nobody's loss
when nobody wins
with no one to want
there's no one to miss

god even the score
give easier chores to them
their bellies scarred like the serpent condemned

still fighting a war
still all of it for
helen

but love is a face nobody can win

it's nobody's loss, when nobody wins
(so nobody win one)
with no one to want, there's no one to miss
(let's all be no one)

and you want me to say i'm sorry
cause you're wanting to understand
and you want me to say i'm sorry
and i am

I got these from LyricWiki.

Back with Scene Music

posted Nov 22, 2008 12:05 PM by Neil Obremski

After over a month of being offline, I've brought the shrine back and uploaded all the scene music off a CD backup I found from May 2001!  That being said there may be missing songs, most notably the popular Red Fez show by Alpha Conspiracy.  I'm really giving this Google Sites thing a shot, so hopefully you'll see consistent updates until I've restored this, the Andrew Sega Shrine (necros.gibdon.com), to its prior glory!
